Maternal Hospitalizations and Sepsis

Sepsis, a life-threatening condition, was present in 6.9 out of every 1,000 maternal hospitalizations during the five-year timeframe from October 2015 through September 2020. This brief shows that maternal patients with sepsis have a statistically higher mortality rate and stay in the hospital longer than those without sepsis. The brief also highlights sociodemographic differences among maternal patients with sepsis.
